My Warhammer Armies

I have been a fan of Warhammer Fantasy for over 20 years. I took a break for the entirety of 7th edition, as I felt the game had gotten stale. Eight Ed has got me fired up to play some WFB!

These are the armies I currently have painted and ready to go. None of them are completely finished as with all my armies I will add new units when I find miniatures that inspire me! i will get some army pics of each of them up as I dig them outta their hidden crypts, where they have been stored for the last 4 years!

Dwarfs, almost entirely made up of metal models some dating back to the mid 80's! This is by far my favorite army, including two units that were painted in the 80's, and they hold up decently to my standards.

Warriors of Chaos, with lots of classic Bob Nasmith warrior goodness also from the 80's, although the balance of the army is from the more current range of models.

I have a Bretonian army built from historical minis from all sorts of manufacturers, it can also double as an Empire army by adding my classic GW/Foundry War of the Roses Cavalry and gunners.

Lastly I have a large army of undead, that were originally the Lichemasters army, sorely outta date. I loved this army, well I really dug the Lichemasters background, I may in time revisit this army with what Big Jim is famous for....

...a homebrew army list, oh yeah, just give me a little time!

I also have the following unpainted armies:

Tomb Kings
Ogre Kingdoms
Old school High Elves collected in the 90's
old School metal Beastmen from the 90's as well.

The first things I will be painting are these two boxes of Dwarf miniatures from 1985 and 1987.

These are the original Bugmans Dwarf Rangers on Slotta Bases.

This will be my second box of the Dragon company in the army, gotten for me by a friend when I was considering repainting my original box that were painted when released all those years ago. So under threat of death I won't strip the originals and shall enjoy the replacements!

  1. In the back left corner of the second, and also the final, photo of my post today, you may just be able to see a garish purple version of some (but not an entire regiment) of these Imperial Dwarfs. Glorious!!! And here I thought you were talking about the plastics all this time. How wonderfully wrong I was.

I cannot wait to see how this all turns out. Cheers again for the inspiration and nostalgia bound in one simple, diminutive bundle.

    You Rock!

  2. Thanks for the comments bud!

Oh, I do have about 20 or 30 of those plastics, but they are still unpainted after all these years. I think I m gonna use them as fillers for the Bugmans RR box as it only has 16 minis in it.

Well, I think we are even, as we seem to inspire each other which is awesome!

  3. My previous comment from your historical blog still pertains...
...anyhow, that is a whole lot of WHFB armies. I have contemplated getting a fantasy army from time to time...
...however, the threat from She-Who-Wears-The-Pants that I would be banished to sleeping in the garage has curtailed this idea. So, I shall live vicariously through you. Haha!

  4. LOL, Mags, what if someone were to gift you a WFB army? How would that go over? ;)

  5. Unfortunately Jim, I still would probably end up living in the garage...maybe for a shorter duration, but I am pretty sure it would be at least a temporary sleeping area. :-)

  6. Big Jim,

I feel very close to you right now.

    Hold me?

I LOVE the older ranges. The fact you're going to be using these old models tickles me pink. In fact, they hold up really well.

The Chaos models of old are personal favorites of mine. My collection of them was stolen years ago and I haven't had the heart to work on replacing them. I've got one old model that I think I'm going to have to dig out...

...back! I ran off to the gameroom and dug him out. I'm going to paint him up and post him on Strictly Average in the next week, so be sure to stop by.

I look forward to reading your adventures in 8th Ed. I have to admit, I've been really enjoying the trip.

  7. Aw, Brent I can feel our whiskers intertwining as we snuggle! LOL

You know I'll stop by and see what you do with the model!

I'll get some pics up later today or tonight of some of my favorite minis.
